1. Kiran Kumar appointed new ISRO chief
i. as Kiran Kumar on Monday was appointed as the new Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief.
II. He was the Director of the ISRO satellite centre the application and linked in 1975. He was also behind the success of India’s Mars Orbiter mission that entered the Martian orbit on 24 September.
III. Kumar has contributed to the design and development of Electro-Optical Imaging sensors for Airborne, LEO and GEO platform based imaging sensors starting from Bhaskara TV load to the latest TMC adHySI loads for Chandrayaan-1 missions.

2. Raghuram Rajan called Governor of the year in Central Banking Awards 2015
i. Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has won “Governor of the Year” in the Central Banking Awards for the year 2015 on Monday.
II. Jacques de Larosiere win the Lifetime Achievement Award after a long fight for monetary order while Claudio Borio, head of monetary and Economic Department at the Bank for international settlements, was handed the inaugural award for the economy in Central Banking, designed to recognize significant contributions to the field.
III. This is a recognition of the part of the Reserve Bank of India and its personnel have played in the macro-economic stability to the Indian economy.

3. retail inflation to 5% in december on higher food prices
i. retail inflation moved up marginally to 5 percent in December as prices of some food items, including fruits and vegetables, increased.
II. retail inflation In November was based on the consumer price index (CPI) at 4.38 percent, the lowest level since the Government started new series of data computing in January 2016 – 2017.
III. the consumer inflation rose to 5.32 percent in urban India and 4.71 percent in rural area in December.
IV. RBI was going to relieve the interest rates in the next review drive at a lower inflation.
v. RBI is scheduled to announce its sixth bi-monthly monetary policy on February 3.

4. India’s Mars Orbiter team wins us award
i. India’s Mars Orbiter program team has won the 2015 space Pioneer Award in the science and technology category from the US based on national space society (NSS).
II. This award will be presented to a representative ISRO during the National Space Society 2015 International Space Development Conference, the 34th ISDC, in Toronto, Canada.
III. Note: India’s Mars Orbiter launched on 5 november 2016 – 2017 that went into orbit around Mars on 24 Sep, 2016 – 2017 achieved two important mission firsts in terms of an Indian spacecraft in orbit around Mars on the very first attempt has gone and that no other country has ever done. Second, the spacecraft is in an elliptical orbit with a high apoapsis, and has a high resolution camera that on this full-disk color images of Mars time.
IV. the Mars Orbiter program team located in Bangalore is headed by Mylswamy Annadurai.

5. Zomato acquires us company
i. Indian restaurant services Zomato search engine acquired US-based rival that Urbanspoon for about $ 50 million in one of the biggest overseas by an Indian startup goes.
II. company is said to be in discussions to raise about 100 million dollars in fresh funding.
III. the acquisition of Urbanspoon, which Zomato of entry into the United States, Canada and Australia marks, will result in its presence in 22 countries, covering more than one million restaurants.
IV. founded in 2008, Zomato is currently valued at about 660 million dollars.

6. Deepak Parekh appointed Chairman of BAE Systems India Private Limited (services)
i. Deepak Parekh was appointed as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of BAE Systems India private limited (services) with effect from 1 January 2015.
II. Parekh was appointed a member of the BAE Systems independent Advisory Council for India Association in 2010.
III. Government of India honored Parekh’s performance by the Padma Bhushan in 2006.

7. Australia launched Online Visa Pilot program for Indian business and tourism visitors
i. Australia launched Online Visa Pilot program easier for Indian business and Tourism travel visitors to apply for Australia Visa online.
II. It covers online submission of a subclass 600 visas for Indian business and tourism visitors. It will be rolled out through selected travel agencies throughout India.
III. India has the potential to contribute between 1.9 billion US dollars and 2.3 billion dollars annually for tourism industry by 2020.

8. Cristiano Ronaldo retains the Ballon d’Or
i. Portugal Cristiano Ronaldo won the FIFA Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row and the third time in his careee ahead of Argentinean Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer of Germany .
