Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World
Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc
General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization
General Science

Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)

UPSC exam pattern 

Number of Paper  :- Two 
Marks  :- 200 (each paper) 
Period  :- 2 hours (each paper) 

It will be objective type multiple-choice questions which will consist of two papers. Examination will be of 400 marks. This test is only to serve as a screening test; Merit marks obtained by the candidates will not be counted for determining their final order. Only those candidates will receive the minimum qualifying marks, which means it can go to the next stage.

Main Examination: 
The main examination in which candidates have to face written test and an interview. Will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay. Marks the ranking list will be prepared based on the written test and interview (personality test) are obtained by the candidates.
